SamSam Ransomware Campaign Targeting Healthcare Industry

New SamSam ransomware campaign is now primarily targeting healthcare organizations in the United States (making up 85% of affected entities). Attacks are targeted; breaking into the victim’s network and encrypting as many connected devices as possible before demanding a large sum be paid to regain access.

Unlike most ransomware attacks which are primarily spread through email; SamSam will gain entrance via the remote desktop protocol (RDP). Attackers then map out the network before leveraging legitimate operating system and network administration features – allowing SamSam to remain ‘hidden in plain sight’ while it infects a target network.

But you don’t have to tackle cybersecurity threats alone! Ask us about how you can greatly mitigate the risk of ransomware attacks through proper staff training and implementation of Locker Watcher – or a join us for Cyber Security & Locker Watcher Training on November 21st for a more in-depth look at how to defend your organization against cybersecurity threats of all types.
